Tilpa goes in to bat for Pink Stumps Day

pinkstumps-cricket4In the tiny township of Tilpa, 130km north of Wilcannia, in far west NSW, the close-knit town showed its true colours on Sunday 23rd September.

Pink Stumps Day, a nationwide initiative of Cricket Australia and the McGrath Foundation, hit the iconic Darling River village; this fun-filled charity event helping raise valuable funds for the McGrath Foundation to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia and to increase breast awareness in young women.

The event was spearheaded by Chrissie Ashby and Julie McClure, who, in their usual style of not doing anything by half, were determined to make Pink Stumps Day in Tilpa bigger, better and pinker than the rest! And Tilpa did not disappoint – turning up resplendent in pink.

The mini-test begins, with runs made and balls bowled, but in the spirit of the event, there were no winners and losers. Rural Organic supplied organic sausages for the sausage sizzle and the mouth-watering aromas from the BBQ may have caused a few intentional LBWs just so they wouldn’t miss out!

Everyone was tickled pink by the carnival atmosphere and the opportunity for the Tilpa community to band together and help raise funds for the McGrath Foundation. Chrissie and Julie expect this day to grow each year and are already making a list of possible celebrity guests for next year’s event!

On behalf of the McGrath Foundation and the Tilpa Community we thankyou for your generous donation and support at our recent ‘Tilpa Pink Stumps’ day. The day was a huge success and raised $3186.66 for the McGrath Foundation. This money enables the Foundation to continue Jane’s legacy by funding Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia.

The support we received was amazing – together we can make a difference.

Regards in pink,
